1 John 4:19

“We love because He first loved us.”

February: the month of love.

In this month there is a day. There is a day when the whole country celebrates the emotion and feeling of “love.” Many of us will shower our loved ones with it or it can be a hard reminder that we don’t have someone to share that feeling with. This year, I had a change of perspective and it has made me love this month in a way I never have before. February is the month of remembering my First Love.

The reason we love is because of the overpour of love Jesus has given us. Isn’t that so amazing to think about… you love your family because Jesus loved you first. You love our friends because Jesus loved you first. You love your boyfriend because Jesus loved you first. You love your teachers, co-workers, bosses, mentors, because… JESUS LOVED YOU FIRST!

You know what love is because you know the One who has a never-ending, overwhelming, and never-failing love for you. You are able to be an example of love to others because the one who is your First Love lives inside of you.

A lot of think our First Love could be that boyfriend we had in middle school, but it’s actually the One who loved you before you were even born- before you even knew what love could be or feel like.

When He died on the cross for you 2000 years ago, YOU were on His mind. He died for you not only to be forgiven for your sins forever and ever, not only to be with Him in heaven when this life is over but to also experience this love. A love so deep, so big, and so beyond measure. It is never-ending, never failing, and never questioned.

This love can never be earned, it’s given freely and effortlessly. What a love this is!

This month is more than “how we celebrate based on our relationship status,” it’s about celebrating the beautiful fact that we can love because the One showed us the ultimate example of love and has given us a reason to love here on Earth.

So tell me, how do you love? What is your favorite way to express love to others? Why do you love?
